Discover the beauty of Treviso
Where forest meets ocean
Simple notes extracted from our readings but above all from our life experience in a region we fell in love with.
The first impression when you meet Treviso is probably the peaceful atmosphere given by the place of the vegetation everywhere in the city, the harmony of its architecture, the warmth colours of its facades and mostly by the water element that sneaks in all the town, also called the little Venice.
The aquatic nature of Treviso has modelled its urban structure around an intricate network of canals that branch out from the Botteniga River, the river that runs on your feet at the Botteniga’s Trevisohome apartment and join the Sile River in the south. Numerous waterways still link Treviso to Venice.
You enter in Treviso through the very well conserved city walls that have been designed in 1509 to protect the territory of Venice and combine a pentagonal shape to the pre-existing 14th century fortifications. Treviso has 3 gates, St Tommaso, Altinia and Santi Quaranta Gate. You surely will have a very pleasant walk on these walls, that host many events and markets during the year and especially the summer.
A city to be discovered
Il Territorio
The “Marca trevigiana”
The area that embrace the province of Treviso so called the Marca Trevigiana is characterised by its extraordinary diversified landscapes and its extremely rich artistic and cultural patrimony.
The province of Treviso is indissolubly linked to the Serenissima, the Republic of Venice. The lion of Venice, symbol of the Republic’s protection and supremacy, overlooks the gates of the main cities and its imprint determined the economic, architectural and cultural development of Treviso, Oderzo, Conegliano and many others.
The Marca trevigiana is also dotted with one of the most beautiful città d’arte, cities of art. On the North-west, in the gently rolling green hills, Asolo is a marvellous artistic city perched on the Monte Ricco and surrounded by olive trees, cypresses and vines.
The stretch of land between Conegliano and Valdobbiadene is a continuous sequence of ancient villages immersed in gentle hills and splendid vineyards of the authentic Prosecco wine. On the north side of the river Piave, the pre-alpine strip of land, Conegliano and Vittorio Veneto both must be visited.
The landscapes are so diversified, the pre-alps toward the Dolomites, UNESCO’s treasure (at less than 1 hour from Treviso) are just breath-taking. Closer to Treviso, you will also have the joy to discover the Regional nature park of the Sile, the longest resurgent river in Europe and the source of the Delta that feature an extraordinary naturalistic protected heritage and of course the Montello Hill, the perfect place for gourmets and mushrooms, but also the place of heroic events of the Great War.
“The Province of Treviso is obviously intimately linked to the Serenissima, the Republic of Venice.”
